What is the one thing your business is known for, over your competitors?

Customer service- Straight A knows which items are acceptable for each school in ASD.

Explain why you’re known for that.

Our competitors are not 100% knowledgeable on school uniforms and ASD dress codes, and uniform items tend to be mixed in with other products.

How did the business get started?

While working at The Archive, I helped create the school uniform portion of their business. When my bosses, Santo & Joe, decided to sell, they offered it to me and I accepted.

Why did you choose to open your business in Downtown Allentown?

Downtown Allentown is the core of Allentown which I feel makes us the most accessible to all families, We are close to the Admin building, bus routes, and other landmarks.

Tell us about the biggest “win” in your business’s history? Explain what it was, how it came about, and what it meant to your business.

Straight A’s biggest win has been in its ability to give back to the community- through donations and programs to schools, community services, and directly to families. Through the support of ASD, local charters, and families they have made it possible for us to reach back in and help those in need.

What is the biggest risk your business ever took? Explain what it was, what could have happened if it had gone wrong, and the end result of the risk.

The biggest risk we ever took was due to the supply chain- we ended up taking in the merchandise we had ordered for Fall of 2022 in March of 2022. There is always a chance that changes could be made to the dress codes, etc. and we could end up with merchandise that wouldn’t sell.

What are some of your store’s goals for the future?

Our goal is to include a community day event to bring together local services and businesses geared towards children, for just a fun day for kids.

Tell us an interesting and fun fact about your business?

A fun fact about Straight A is that the “A” in the circle is supposed to be the grade on top of a graded test paper. The A was also a nod to Archive its original home and of course Allentown!

There are so many options to pick from down here. I would say it’s tied between The Chez sandwich at Ciao and a plain slice at Tavola in the Market.
